Lane & Misty

My baby brother is getting married...

Yep, the kid who's diapers I just changed (what feels like) only yesterday has met his match, and they are planning a May wedding!! Naturally, I jumped at the opportunity to take their engagement photos. Well, more like I insisted that I would do them…lol! Personally, I think having such good-looking subjects made the entire process so much easier :)

I couldn't be more happy for these two kids, and I am enjoying every moment of this journey towards the BIG day next spring!

Hot. That is the only way to describe last Saturday when this pictures were taken. Just plain old, sticky skin, I-didn't-know-I-could-sweat-from-there, hot. Not only was the temperature up in the 90's, we picked one of the most humid days of the summer to take pictures of two 5-year olds. Needless-to-say, we had our hands full! :)

These two kiddos were my troopers though, and so were their parents. I am so happy that I had the chance to spend time with them, and despite the mosquitos and glaring sunshine, they all managed to look fantastic!

Matt, Amber, & Grant

I had such a good time with these folks...We spent the afternoon killing mosquito's and taking photos in their lovely backyard. The little guy was such a trooper considering we woke him up from his afternoon nap! All-in-all I think I snapped some really sweet moments, and I'm so happy they asked me to do so! :)

A Sunday Drive

Being in the country is my absolute favorite and being there with my mom is the best feeling ever! Hands down, my mom is my biggest fan.

No matter what new hobby I picked up as a child and consequently obsessed over, Mom always let me do "me." I tried ballet, tap, swimming, dance, gymnastics, cheer leading, jewelry making, furniture refinishing, painting, etc...and Mom never told me not to, or tried to push me when my interest had faded. I guess that's why I was most excited about showing her my new camera. She loves taking pictures as well, so I'm pretty sure I get it honest! I spent, yet another Sunday afternoon, with mom driving around aimlessly and here are a few of the moments I loved. :)

We had a ball passing by neat little farms, doing u-turns in the roads, and parking alongside the ditches so that I could get out and play. This little guy below was a great subject...I'm sure I took at least 20 different shots of him as he sashayed himself clear up within my reaching distance just to pose for me.

I shall call him Marshmallow, and he shall be my Marshmallow...

Two Years Later...

Throwback to my first gig!!!

Let me say that this was the absolute FIRST time I was asked to take pictures for an actual reason or purpose other than just for my own enjoyment. When April emailed me about taking pictures of her daughter and her two friends as a "surprise" birthday present, I was SO all about it!!

At this time (December of 2012) I had no idea about the concepts of lighting, exposure, composition, or even what those words really meant. I just felt as though I could see pictures that needed to be taken and I knew that it was something I had pursue.

Now, back to these ladies...

They knew exactly what to do in front of the camera! I didn't have the faintest idea how to explain what I saw in my head, but somehow they just knew what I was asking for. They were pros at being my models, and were so amazing to work with.

We had such a great time, and I'm so happy to share these finally!!

Number One

Well, I'm starting a photo blog...

Why? Because my sweet boyfriend, Ryan, bought me a nice camera about 2 years ago and, by fault of my friends and family's encouragement in my ability, I'm using this blog as a platform for sharing my "work."

I haven't any aspirations of actually being able to put food on the table through photography, I just want to be really good at it, and in the meantime, capture some of life's little moments on digital.

Now, before I post my amateur attempts at "for serious" photography, allow me to introduce the subject of most of my pictures; Sir. Evan-thee-Boss. This little guy has been in my life for almost three years and honestly, has been at the center of my inspiration. I am so thankful for this kid and his dad (of course), that I couldn't begin to try and imagine my little life without either of them! In my heart there's no denying that the Big Man upstairs had His hand in bringing us together.

One Sunday after church in November 2012, Ryan, Evan, and I walked around Downtown Raleigh and these were a few images I was able to snap without too much protest....enjoy!
